1. Project Title: Analytical and Simulation Study of Bidirectional Relaying Strategies in Cognitive Radio Networks

This research work has made significant contributions and a number of publications in IEEE journals and conferences. In particular, we have proposed opportunistic cooperative strategies for a two-way cognitive radio network, and investigated their performance in a generalized fading environment. The theoretical investigations have provided useful insights into the system performance. Moreover, by illustrating the impact of various system/channel parameters on the spectrum sharing, the feasible region for the placement of secondary users is depicted to access the spectrum. It is shown that the primary user selection diversity does not provide much help in spectrum sharing whereas secondary user selection diversity plays more significant role in realizing spectrum sharing. Overall, the proposed schemes and the derived analytical results will help in designing process of reliable and spectrally efficient layouts for the future generation of wireless communication systems.

2. Project Title: Development of Green and Secure Communication Techniques  for Future Wireless Networks

Duration: 5 Years (2017-2022) 

The project aims at development of energy-efficient network planning and resource allocation strategies in the context of green wireless communications. The wireless techniques used for improving spectral efficiency often lead to decrease in energy efficiency and vice-versa. Therefore, a careful design for future wireless networks is desirable in view of both energy and spectral efficiency. Moreover, owing to the broadcast nature of the medium and the associated security vulnerabilities, it is important to augment secrecy even at physical layer of communications.

3. Project Title: Performance Analysis of Diffusion-Based Molecular Communication Systems with Active Receivers

The project aims to investigate the performance of the diffusion-based molecular communication (DMC) systems with more realistic and complex transmitters and receivers. With the modeling of spherical transmitter and active receivers, it is of interest to analyze the performance of DMC systems on the basis of estimation of various system parameters and evaluation of relevant performance measures.

Collaborative Projects

  1. Project Title: Investigation on Resource Allocation Algorithms for Green Networks

Collaborators: Dr. Prabhat K. Upadhyay and Dr. Marceau Coupechoux (Associate Professor, Telecom ParisTech, France).

Under this project, an undergraduate student (Mounika Reddy) of IIT Indore has carried out the initial part of the research work under the supervision of Dr. Marceau Coupechoux, Associate Professor at Telecom ParisTech, France for a duration of 3 months (15 May- 15 August, 2014). Then, she has carried out the remaining part at IIT Indore under my supervision (from 16 August to 15 November, 2014). This project is financially supported by Telecom ParisTech and IIT Indore (under PRIUS scheme).

 

2. Project Title: Offline and Online Matching of Device-to-Device (D2D) Relays

Collaborators: Dr. Prabhat K. Upadhyay and Dr. Marceau Coupechoux (Associate Professor, Telecom ParisTech, France).

The main idea behind this project is to match online D2D relays with cellular users, who are communicating on uplink with a base station (BS). We consider a heterogeneous setting where the set of users and helpers is mutually exclusive. As every helper arrives, it announces a cost for helping each user along with the utility function. The BS assigns the helper with an user depending on the cost and utility functions. After the assignment, the BS makes the payment to the helper confining to the fixed budget. Our aim is to maximize the utility of the BS and the total budget has to be constrained. Also the matching strategy should be individually rational i.e., a helper when selected should be paid higher than its cost and truthful, there is no incentive for announcing a wrong cost i.e., the helpers are expected to report their true costs. Under this project, an undergraduate student (Kavya Putluri) of IIT Indore has carried out internship with financial support (during June-August 2015) at Telecom ParisTech and then continued BTP (during September-November 2015) at IIT Indore.

 

3. Project Title: Emerging Technologies for Wireless Communication Systems

Collaborators: Dr. Prabhat K. Upadhyay and Dr. Daniel Benevides da Costa (Assistant Professor, Federal University of Ceará (UFC), Sobral-CE-Brazil).

The objectives of this project are to support the research scientific of research groups and promote the exchange of research groups. It is intended to develop and design emerging technologies for future generations of wireless communication systems. The project is approved under FUNCAP whose main coordinator is Prof. Daniel Benevides da Costa.

4. Project Title: Design and Development of Large-Scale Ambient Energy Harvesting Wireless Networks (LargEWiN)
Collaborators: Dr. Prabhat K. Upadhyay (IIT Indore), Dr. Abhinav Kumar (IIT Hyderabad), Dr. Daniel Benevides da Costa (Federal University of Ceara (UFC), Sobral-CE-Brazil), Dr. Haiyang Ding (National University of Defense Technology, China), and Dr. Jules Mouatcho Moualeu (University of Witwatersrand, South Africa).

This project aims to empower the large-scale wireless networks with the ambient energy harvesting and the emerging communication technologies to promote the green economy in a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable manner. It seeks to address the system performance, planning, and resource allocation problems by exploiting cooperation among available network resources with renewable and/or radio frequency (RF) energy sources for implementation of Large-Scale Ambient Energy Harvesting Wireless Networks (LargEWiN). Especially, it intends to integrate the more appealing millimeter wave (mmWave) technology into LargEWiN for its potential futuristic deployment.
